Carriacou means isle surrounded by reefs in Kayak language. The Island is still a diving destination to discover. Dive sites provide an array of fish on a wide quantity of healthy reefs and wrecks for all levels from beginner to experience divers. Here are just a few words from recent happy divers.
“ Richard and Diane are absolutely incredible and their love for the ocean and entertaining guests spans far greater than just diving. After two amazing dives, the instructor cleaned our gear while we hit the water again for a topside excursion. Our group found ourselves amidst the most beautiful Caribbean backdrop one could find. Diane had been preparing the day before for a beautiful shore lunch. Within a few minutes the picnic table was filled with all the sustenance a hungry diver could imagine (including a some Carib and of course some Rum). We filled our belly's and hit the beach in search for some hermit crabs for the hermit crab races. Next we ended the day with a nice exfoliation from the mud baths. Truly exceptional service! ”
“ Came down with a family of 4 (2 teenagers, wife, and myself). We are not the most experienced divers. The setup was perfect for us. This was a personal and tailored dive experience (not the large boat, 25 divers, mass production scenario we get in Ft. Lauderdale). The guides were amazing, safety conscious, knowledgeable, and very friendly. The boat rides were relatively short, and the diving was nothing short of spectacular. Not to be too dramatic, but we trusted Diane and Richard and Rob and Rachel and Dante with the lives of our children, and we would do so again! When the visibility is perfect, the dives here bested most of what we got in Bonaire in terms of animal life and the coral was about equal to Bonaire (although some parts of Bonaire were better). Maybe it was the time of the year, but we basically had the ocean to ourselves. I suspect it would be more crowded in peak season but even so, there are so many sites, it is hard to imagine this would be a problem. Moreover, there are all the sites on the South of the island we did not go to because we were not experienced enough give the currents. These sites offer bigger fish, eagle rays, etc but we certainly did not feel deprived in any way. For example, I floated right over a rock out-cropping staring at the walls of brightly colored fish in my path only to hear the clanking of Richard's tank as he noticed the large turtle resting underneath said out-cropping. You see so much here but it is only the tip of the iceberg. Lumbadive knows the areas with and without currents and adjusted our dives according to our skill level. I would recommend letting Diane arrange for your travel and accommodations as she did a great job AND if you have to cancel to meet the requirements of travel insurance, then it is easiest to have a single point person for this purpose. The island is exactly the pace we liked. We did not feel like this is a European or American satellite. It has its own feel. If there were glamour venues to see and be seen, we missed them, but then again we would have avoided them at all costs anyway. I even hesitate to write this review from a very selfish perspective that I want it to stay slower-paced, less trafficked, less built up. Finally, we stayed in the Las Tortugas Villa. If it is in your budget, it is everything the website pictures show and more. We will definitely be back! ”
“ Diane and Richard were great hosts. Diane arranged our travel and land accommodations. Everything went smoothly. Hillside Las Tortugas Villa overlooking Paradise Beach was paradise. Concierge type diving. We dove Nitrox. Dive guides were knowledgable and attentive. The Troll wreck at 115 ft. and Tropical Hill were highlights. We dove mostly in the marine park where the reefs and the corals are extremely healthy and tropical fish life is abundant. The diving is almost pristine and we would definitely go back.”
